The Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique is a method of observation of ourselves and our habits in our daily lives, discovered by F.M. Alexander at the turn of the 20th century. Alexander saw the individual as a whole and talked not of ‘the body’ but of ‘the self’, not of ‘posture’ but of ‘use’.
The aim of the Alexander Technique is not to teach you to do what is right but to help you to stop doing what is wrong. Through a series of practical procedures and hands on guidance which awaken our awareness of how we use our ‘self’ we can learn to observe and recognize patterns, habits and tensions and explore new possibilities and direction in the way we use ourselves in our daily lives.
The technique can be applied to all areas of activity. Many people with back problems and pain, neck tension and headaches can find it helpful. The technique is widely used by actors, musicians and dancers who can discover increased presence, vitality and freedom.
